Masterton Wins best custom home builder at MBA NSW awards

Masterton has again proven we’re one of the best custom home builders in Sydney and NSW, taking out the top award for Best Contract Home in the $500,000 to $650,000 price range, at the Master Builders Association (MBA) awards held Friday 9th October 2020.

Masterton Wins best custom home builder at MBA NSW awards

‘The home is a stunning Hampton’s inspired design and is a real credit to Anthony Campanale our design manager, the interior design team, the construction team, our suppliers and trades and everyone who was involved in delivering this award-winning home,’ said Bob Heymel, Masterton Group CEO.

The award-winning home

A Sydney home inspired by iconic East Coast American Architecture the home channels the timeless appeal of a Hamptons manor house.

Looking for luxury home builders in Sydney, the family’s brief to Masterton was to create something solid, practical, and well laid out, just like the Masterton display homes they had walked through and loved. But Stephanie Sudzina wanted her home to be a little more personal, with architectural features influenced by the nostalgia of her childhood, growing up in Pennsylvania on the East Coast of the US.

The result? A home that’s exactly what Stephanie dreamed of (and what we are now dreaming of!) with an attractive façade, detailed with paneling, statement windows and of course that iconic grey and white colour scheme. Even from the outside it’s the stand out home on the street.

What the judges said

‘This is not the average project home we were expecting. The design was the first thing that stood out as more of an architectural home. The quality of finishes and materials used were put together with excellent workmanship. Well done!’

While this home took out the award for best contract home, the Ascot, one of our single storey designs was also a finalist at the awards.

Why the family chose Masterton to build a custom home

‘We spent a long time searching for a home builder who would listen to what we wanted and design our home with the same enthusiasm we had for the project,’ Stephanie said. ‘At first we weren’t sure about using a display home builder but after a few discussions with the custom design team I knew we had the right people.’

The family were attracted to Masterton as a new home builder because they wanted a big main living area and kitchen to hang out in together, as well as lots of natural light. And, as Stephanie explained, once they realised Masterton also designed and built custom homes, they were convinced they were the right choice to bring the family’s vision for a classic and yet cosy, East Coast home to life.

Inside the award-winning home

The home balances lots of open spaces with comfy nooks, reflecting the way the family lives and also, how things will change when their son grows into a teenager and needs more time alone to study and unwind. There’s a separate study, a media room, cozy window seats and a home theatre for those lazy Friday nights in.

Being a custom design there are lots of additional features that the family requested like built in cabinetry including an entertainment unit and bookshelves as well as a big, formal fireplace. The staircase was sourced by Masterton to compliment the rich, chocolate floorboards the family had chosen, framed by a classic white balustrade.

‘We actually really love the foyer,’ Stephanie said. ‘As soon as you open the front door you’re greeted by a show-stopper of an entrance which is really highlighted by the use of white wainscoating. It sets the tone for the rest of the house.’

But the family say their favourite space is the open plan kitchen and dining area—where they spend the most time together.

It’s bright and airy with highlight windows installed above French doors that open to the garden. And with large skylights over the dining space, the early morning sunshine can stream in, illuminating the big white kitchen (for feeding a hungry, growing boy!). With a gorgeous colonial style island bench, a farmhouse sink and a standout black Smeg cooktop (as well as the addition of a butler’s pantry), it’s the perfect spot to gather with friends for a pre-barbie cocktail.

And what was it like building a custom home with a display home builder?

‘The whole journey was pretty seamless,’ Stephanie said. ‘Plus, it was a lot more affordable than engaging an architectural firm because of the economies of scale. We really feel that Masterton are one of the best home builders in Sydney.’

The family were also eligible for inclusions packages meaning necessary extras like ducted air-conditioning, and cutting-edge appliances were included in the price.

‘Nothing was too much trouble for Masterton even the little things,’ she said. ‘Like sourcing the perfect red colour for our front door, the universal symbol of welcome and hospitality in Pennsylvania since the days of the American Revolution.’
